ADRIFT is set of Windows applications for creating and playing Text Adventures, also known as Interactive Fiction. It comes in two parts; there's Developer - the part where you create adventure games, and Runner - the part where you can play the games.

ADRIFT Runner is the application used to play ADRIFT games. It currently runs on Windows, Mac, Linux and within Web browsers, effectively allowing ADRIFT games to run on any platform. Runner has a built in map, which follows the player's movements within the game, showing you everywhere you have been. The map is 3D and can be rotated to allow different view points.

Here is what the runner looks like at the start of a game:

ADRIFT Developer is a Windows application that allows you to create complex interactive fiction games quickly and easily. It allows you to concentrate on the story by making everything else easy, such as having all options available in dropdown lists, rather than you having to spend a lot of time just trying to figure out how to code the game. Games in ADRIFT are created by adding locations, objects, characters and tasks. These can be organised into folders, allowing you to group things together in a logical manner.

When you first start the developer you will see a large toolbar at the top with labeled buttons that let you create locations for the player to move through, objects for them to interact with and characters for them to talk to.

The blue area at the top labeled "Map" will show the locations you create as labeled boxes, and the paths between those locations that the player can travel along.

Down the bottom right are small windows labeled Locations, Objects, Tasks, Characters and Events. These are the folders which list all of the items that you create for your game.

On the left is a folder tree which works just like windows explorer, except you can open any number of the folders at the same time in the folder window.
