An article is a word that is used to indicate the type of reference being made by the noun. The articles in the English language are the and a/an, and some.

Article Useage
the Indicates that there is only one of these objects or characters in existance, such as "the pirate king" or "the sword excalibur".
a This object/character is one of many. Used when the next word sounds like it starts with a consonant
an This object/character is one of many. Used when the next word sounds like it starts with a vowel.
some This object is a collection of many, such as "some weeds"

ADRIFT has an Article field on the description page of both characters and objects. In both cases it is only used together with the adjectives and noun when printing out the name of the object or the short description (descriptor) of a character.

  • Note that the %object%.Name function does not allow you to use the article that you specified for a particular object, instead changing the article to "the". You will need to create your own properties if you want to print the name with the correct article.
  • ADRIFT does not currently allow direct access to this property for either objects or characters. You will need to create your own adjective property if you need access to it by itself.
  • There is currently no support for languages other than english.
  • Names that show ownership of objects, such as "Simon's wallet" are possible, but you will need to add your own name property that duplicates the objects name, as it is not possible to use the %object%.Name function.
